Woman finds diamond at park: Colorado Woman Crater Of Diamonds Park, Earlier this week a Colorado woman discovered a 8.52-carat diamond in an Arkansas state park – the fifth-largest diamond found in the park since its opening 43 years ago.

Bobbie Oskarson found the diamond Wednesday at the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, according to the Associated Press.

She initially thought it was quartz crystal, according to 9 News, but park officials confirmed its real identity.

Oskarson has named the diamond, which she plans to keep, “Esperanza Diamond,” both for her niece and for the Spanish word for hope, according to 9 News.

Arkansas’s Crater of Diamonds State Park has historically held several such treasures: The “perfect” 3.03-carat Strawn Wagner diamond, the 6.19-carat Limitless Diamond and the 40.23-carat Uncle Sam, the nation’s largest diamond, were all discovered there.

Oskarson’s discovery is at least the third such one this year.

So-named for an eruption that filled the area with the titular mineral, Crater of Diamonds is the only public place in the world where, for a fee, you can hunt diamonds and keep what you find.
