Tulane fires coach: Tulane Curtis Johnson, Barring a last-minute change of direction, Tulane is set to part ways with football coach Curtis Johnson following Friday’s game against Tulsa, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation.
Johnson is 15-33 overall and has struggled mightily since the school moved from Conference USA to the American Athletic Conference, going 6-17 the past two seasons.
Tulane is set to make a decision on hiring a new atheletics director next week and a coaching search will be the immediate priority for the new athletics director, much like the situation at Central Florida.
UCF hired Danny White from Buffalo last week and has given him the responsibility of finding a replacement for football coach George O’Leary.
