Threatens lawsuit: Jameis Winston Lawsuit, Jameis Winston has threatened legal action against CNN if the network goes through with its plans to air a documentary on Sunday that revolves around the rape allegations made against him in December 2012.
Winston’s attorney, John Boudet, fired off a letter to CNN this week urging the news network to not show The Hunting Ground.
The documentary, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January, is about sexual assault on college campuses and features the first public interview with Erica Kinsman, the woman who accused Winston of sexual assault.
According to Boudet, the film “manipulates, misstates or simply omits facts to present a false narrative.” In Boudet’s letter, which was obtained by the Hollywood Reporter, Winston’s lawyer threatens legal action.
“We are writing to formally caution CNN that the portions of the film The Hunting Ground pertaining to Mr. Winston are false and defamatory to Mr. Winston,” the letter says. “We urge CNN to reconsider the reckless decision to proceed with the broadcast of this deeply-flawed documentary in the face of the overwhelming evidence the film’s producers consciously and intentionally failed to adhere to any accepted journalistic standards.”
Police in Tallahassee, Fla., investigated Kinsman’s allegations in the fall of 2013 and didn’t find enough evidence to charge Winston with any crime.
