Eli Manning SNL, Eli Manning sensed his brother’s shadow even as a comedic actor.
“Saturday Night Live” producers invited the New York Giants quarterback to host after he won his first Super Bowl in 2008. One of the many reasons he declined was that Peyton Manning had hosted the show a year earlier after his own championship.
“Peyton had done so well the previous year, I thought it might be a little fresh in everyone’s minds,” Eli said Wednesday. “I did not want to have to go up against a tough competition and the great job that he performed.”
Manning recalled he sent word back that perhaps he’d host if he won another title. Sure enough, he said yes after his second ring and will star in the late-night sketches this Saturday.
“I had not proven myself as much as I wanted to,” he said of that initial offer four years ago.
Manning and SNL chief Lorne Michaels took part in a conference call Wednesday, hours before the quarterback would start acting out 40-45 skits to whittle down to 12 or 13 to be potentially performed in front of that live television audience.
He made the short trip into Manhattan from Hoboken, N.J., on Monday and Tuesday afternoon to meet with writers and cast members at NBC’s Rockefeller Center studios. Wednesday afternoon would be the first time Manning saw the scripts and rehearsed, and he was eager to get going.
He sat in the audience, laughing along, when Peyton hosted in 2007, an episode that included a memorable sketch lampooning the NFL’s United Way commercials. Eli sought his brother’s advice before accepting his own invitation.
Peyton told him: “The one thing you are used to doing is live – that’s something you do every week during the football season.”
“We know how Eli reacts both under pressure and also with changing things quickly,” Michaels said. “I don’t think we’re making any other kinds of concession because it’s an athlete over an actor, comedian or singer – or politician, for that matter.”
John Madden, who hosted in 1982, called Manning on Wednesday and offered the same counsel that Peyton did, encouraging him to savor working with the writers and cast members during the week. Eli said he and his brother were comfortable poking fun at themselves. (AP)

Saturday Night Live, With “Saturday Night Live” featured player Paul Brittain departing earlier this season, there’s a little room on the roster for some fresh meat. Now, a new report from Deadline says that comedian Kate McKinnon will fill Brittain’s shoes as a new featured player starting with the April 7 episode, hosted by Sofia Vergara.
According to Deadline, McKinnon, along with Jessica Joy, Lauren Lapkus and Elaine Carroll, have all tested for “SNL” honcho Lorne Michaels in recent weeks, but McKinnon made the cut and will debut soon. NBC has not commented officially on the matter.
It makes sense that Michaels is looking to add more women to the cast, since both Kristen Wiig and Abby Elliott could leave the show at the end of the season.

SNL: Ellie Goulding, Could write, literally, an essay on ther subject, “Ellie Goulding proclaims the middle of a discussion about pop singers versus Pop Stars.
“What happened there was a feud between pop artists, but I talked to so many singers now, and everyone seems to side with each other,” Goulding told Billboard.com. “Adele is the greatest singer in the world right now, but it is a wonderful down-to-earth, I think you need a combination thereof, well, pop star good -. People like Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga, who aren ‘t necessarily accessible [personality wise]. ”
If you have any doubts that the camp flexible, electronic-tinged singer-songwriter falls in UK: “It’s not me – I just kind of … sort of singing songs But diversity is something that must always be the case. ”
Goulding name seems to be in the air lately, known to some as a wedding singer in the world’s most famous. Last Friday, the Royal Wedding, Goulding made nearly a full concert of “about songs,” including her chill-inducing cover of Elton John “Your Song,” she said. The experience was both “a real night to remember” and “pleasant surprise” – and he would not have happened without music export colleagues in the United Kingdom, the rapper Tinie Tempah.
“He [Tinie] introduced me to Prince William last year at a festival because they were both looking at my game from the side of the stage,” said Goulding. “William enjoyed the game so that I keep in mind because, obviously, last week. ”
If last week cemented Goulding full-on celebrity in her homeland (2010, even after her first album, “Lights,” reached No. On the charts in the United Kingdom, fueled by the huge single “Starry Eyed”) ther weekend will be her big coming out stateside. Without much warning (“a week or two, she says), Goulding will perform on” Saturday Night Live “May 7, with a big giant – Tina Fey – who is required to make great odds. For Goulding nerves reasons, it is probably better than the prestige of an “SNL” performance was partly lost on the singer.
“It’s hard for me to handle the amount of a big deal” SNL is – an institution – because we have not in the United Kingdom “Goulding said, adding that her host is Fey’s” favorite lady ever -. I am a big fan of “30 Rock”
“I had to do some [promos] with her [Tina Fey] yesterday and everyone said I just got into ther strange girl shy around her,” said Goulding.
After “Saturday Night Live,” Goulding will return to an American audience at Lollapalooza, following performances in small groups at both Coachella and South By Southwest earlier ther spring. “It was the incredible rise to the task of cutting my band down to almost nothing,” said Goulding’s intimate concerts SXSW.
Although her debut Goulding finally saw a U.S. release in March of ther year (one year after its original release date across the pond), the new material reminiscent of early acoustic singer is in the works.
“I’ve been writing here and there – what comes out of my head weird,” she said. “I know what I want in a non-diva.”

Ellie Goulding: Rising Star, British singer Ellie Goulding on a roll. She had a No. 1 album in her native Britain and is preparing to make her biggest appearance on American television to date ther weekend on “Saturday Night Live.” But even with “SNL” host Tina Fey on board, it might be a little difficult to s newest top AccessHollywood.com ‘Rising Star concert rather Royal last week.
“We’ve done quite a great game … and it was like a really kind of concert – to forget who he was, “the strong-running Ellie told Access Hollywood of the execution of Prince William and his wife, Catherine, the new Duchess of Cambridge, receiving Royal Wedding last Friday night. “We did some covers and we did the original material and just had a really amazing time. Me and my group just keep sort of talk goes, “Did we really do? Really? “I feel like there are so many singers out there, so I’m in a happy place because of it.”
Many singers, yes, but not many of them with Ellie diversity and power of crossover.
“When I was younger, I was just really into pop music … [I] obsessed [him] Spice Girls, Take That, then I am a real pop sensibility … And as I got older, through my teenage years, I became a sort of anxiety about it and I just started listening to grunge bands. So, my voice can be very angry and so powerful and such comes from listening to such bands as Pearl Jam, “Ellie said of her voice brand. “Then I found kind of singers – Imogen Heap, Bjork, Ani DeFranco … Then when I got to [college], I discovered electronic music. … That’s when I really started to write and I really found who I was. ”
Who Midlands, England, high-singer, can be found on her debut album, “Lights,” which was released stateside in March. The effort is as diverse as her influences. The title track is a driver-bass-driven pop, “Guns and Horses,” which presents her soulful voice atop the sparkling production, “Starry Eyed”, a hit in her native United Kingdom, has an influence dance heavy, and “Your Song” is its delicate and touching take on the classic Elton John, which she performed for Wills and Kate.
“Your Song” actually became a hit No. 1 in the United Kingdom after Ellie and Ben Lovett of Mumford and Sons has recorded a commercial for the British Christmas store John Lewis.
“When he started, I did for an ad if it was not a big deal,” said Ellie. “We have a studio and any kind of registration and hoped for the best and we don ‘not expecting the same table, so that the success we had in the UK was just really remarkable. We do not expect it at all. ”
Ellie success in the United Kingdom has already helped to give him a boost in America, where she is currently on tour “Lights”.
“Here, the fans were amazing. I could not be more grateful,” she told Access. “I did not know what to expect … It was a sold-out tour, but they are so passionate and dedicated, and they bring me things. I met fans and signed by the following things and they are always so beautiful. ”
Things these days are on a good note for Ellie, and while her days of being an artist struggling behind her, she has her memories of the day her album hit the top spot in her homeland, Great Britain.
“I was driving back from a concert in Glasgow and we drove through the lake region … We do not party or anything. I should have done, I realized,” said she laughs. “When I learned I am a little thought and just look out the window and the type of thinking at all and it was a really great moment for me. Like something I could have forever. ”

Black Keys, Saturday Night Live was fabulous, with Jim Carrey hosting! The NL first time in 2011 began the year with a bang that Jim Carrey hosted with The Black Keys as guest musicians. Carrey made fun of himself being divorced several times and recently split. Discounts in SNL, he acted as he knocked on cast member Kristen Wiig.
Some of my favorite parts of SNL last night included a sketch where Jim Carrey plays Alan Thicke, and a skit on The worst of Soul Train.Jim Carrey Alan Thicke impression was laughing funny. In a sketch called “Psychic Medium”, Carrey was killed with his impression of Alan Thicke. Watch the clip below. Jim Carrey was a large army and The Black Keys rocked the house, it was overall a very good Saturday Night Live yesterday evening. Hopefully this episode of SNL last night will make a strong 2011 for the show. Here is a clip of Jim Carrey, opened yesterday evening, enjoy!
