Star athlete wife die: Jerry Collins Dies, A former All Black has made a simple tribute to his friend Jerry Collins, who was killed in a car accident with his wife on Friday.
Close mate Chris Masoe dyed his hair blond in Collins’ iconic style prior to taking to the field for the Toulon Rugby Club in their match against Stade Francais at the weekend.
Collins, a 34-year-old flanker who won 48 caps for New Zealand, was famous for taking to the field with bleach blonde hair.
The special tribute was praised by Toulon team-mate, the former Wallaby Mat Giteau.
He wrote on Instagram: ‘The hair was an unreal touch, but the way you played would’ve made JC (Jerry Collins) even prouder!’
Collins’ wife Alana Madell was behind the wheel around 4:30am on Friday morning when a bus ploughed into their car in Herault, southern France.
Their daughter, Ayla, survived and remains in a critical condition in a Montpelier hospital, with family by her side.
Masoe and team-mate Neemia Tialata were reportedly given the grim task of formally identifying Collins’ body on Friday.
Collins played 48 tests with the All Blacks, three of which he was captain for, and previously played with the Wellington Hurricanes.
After retiring from his international rugby career in 2008, Collins joined Narbonne in early 2015.
