Singer 67 has first hit: James Taylor, The iconic singer and guitarist scored his first number one on the Billboard 200 with the release of his latest album, “Before This World,” at the young age of 67 years old! But he isn’t the only one to accomplish such a feat!
Only forty-seven years after his debut album, “Before This World” sold 97,000 copies in its debut week, according to Rolling Stone. This allows the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer to enjoy his first ever number one.
“Before This World” is Taylor’s first collection of new music in 13 years.
The singer of hits such as “How Sweet It Is,” “Fire and Rain,” “Your Smiling Face,” and “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight,” Taylor had almost hit the top ten dozens of times prior, but never scored as big as he has with his current smash.
According to Rolling Stone, Taylor skirted the top of the charts with nearly a dozen of his albums, including 1970’s “Sweet Baby James,” which peaked at number three and 2002’s “October Road” and 2008’s “Covers,” which both peaked at the number four spot.
Taylor shares this amazing musical accomplishment with another singer who has experienced a career resurgence in recent year, Tony Bennett, who waited 54 years before experiencing his first number one in 2011 with “Duets II.”
Bennett has experienced a career high in the past two years. His work with Lady Gaga has put the long-time crooner back on the musical map. The two are currently completing their “Cheek to Cheek” tour.
