Simple joke or insult?: D.L. Hughley Caitlyn Jenner, Not everyone is in support of Caitlyn Jenner.
During a on-the-street interview with TMZ this weekend, outspoken comedian D.L. Hughley spoke candidly about his disapproval of Caitlyn Jenner and the ESPY’s decision to give her the prestigious Arthur Ashe Award for Courage.
“It’s named after Arthur Ashe. Arthur Ashe grew up in Richmond, Va., He’s a symbol of courage. He helped desegregate the south and he fought AIDS with dignity and honor. Caitlyn Jenner put on a dress. I don’t think it’s the same thing,” the 52 year old said.”
Hughley said Lauren Hill, a freshman basketball player from Mount. St. Joseph University who died in April of brain cancer exhibited more courage and should’ve been the recipient for the award.
Jenner, 65, made her first public appearance at the ESPY award ceremony last week where she thanked her family and friends for their unconditional support through her transitional period. Wearing a winter-white floor length Atelier Versace gown, many approved of Jenner’s attire and when asked by the cameraman if he thought Jenner was attractive, Hughley compared her to one of Robin Williams’ iconic roles.
“Yeah, in a Mrs. Doubtfire kind of way. Stop it!” Hughley said.
The Kings of Comedy actor later took to his Instagram account to post a side-by-side image of Jenner and Robin Williams in his title role, which received mix reviews from his followers.
