Security kicks rocker off stage: Damon Albarn Roskilde, There was eventually No Distance Left to Run for Blur frontman Damon Albarn, who was carried off stage by security guards after playing a five-hour set at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark over the weekend.
Albarn was performing with the Africa Express project but, when the gig ended at 4am, Albarn announced: “F–k what everyone says. You want more, we’re going to give you more.” He then asked the crowd to start cheering, so that he could continue performing.
Earlier in the evening, the 47-year-old had played a cover of The Clash’s Should I Stay Or Should I Go, featuring Nick Zenner from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and performed with Laura Mvula and Blur guitarist Graham Coxon. Albarn also performed Gorillaz tracks and a cover of Randy Newman.
The Africa Express is a project that brings together various styles of music from across the globe. Alongside Albarn, Brian Eno, Jeff Wooton, Seye Adeklan and Songhoy Blues are also prominent members.
