Rhimes on Heigl’s return: Katherine Heigl Done, “Grey’s Anatomy” is about to move on to season 12, but despite what some fans have hoped, Kathrine Heigl will not be returning as Izzie Stevens.
During the recent Television Critics Association summer press tour, TVLine founder Michael Ausiello asked creator Shonda Rhimes point-blank if Katherine Heigl would be making a return to “Grey’s Anatomy.” The executive producer was firm in her answer.
“No,” said Rhimes. “I’m done with that story. I’ve turned that idea over in my mind a thousand times and thought about how it would go. And I don’t think so.”
While some fans are heartbroken over this before season 12 arrives, other feels that closure has already been given to Izzie, particularly in relationship with Alex.
“Why am I the only person who thinks there was closure for Alex and Izzie?” asked Arl on TVLine. “She left him and then came crawling back. He said he knew now he deserves better. She left in tears. Closed.”
But that’s not the only spoiler Rhimes provided for “Grey’s Anatomy.”
At the same event, it was revealed that a three-month time jump will have taken place as season 12 begins. Reportedly, April will have in fact gone overseas to work as a trauma doctor, leaving Jackson at the hospital.
“If I get to continue to evolve in the way that I’ve been able to evolve in the last six years, yes, I’ll stay,” said Drew to Digital Spy UK.
“I mean, number one: being part of this show in particular is such an honor, the writing is so incredible, the people are so amazing and the fans are so enthusiastic.”
