No reunion for star exes: Burt Reynolds Sally Field

No reunion for star exes: Burt Reynolds Sally Field, Burt Reynolds has no regrets when it comes to professing his love for his former girlfriend, actress Sally Field.

“She’s definitely the one that got away,” Reynolds told The Hollywood Reporter.

In Reynolds’ new memoir, But Enough About Me, the actor revealed that he still misses Field, writing that one of his biggest regrets was not making their relationship work. And since the book came out, he’s been very honest about his unresolved feelings for the actress.

But Reynolds has yet to hear anything from Field in response.

“I thought I’d hear from her, but I haven’t,” he said. “I heard that she was very touched by that and wanted to tell me her thoughts, but she wouldn’t tell anybody else. She’s very guarded and for good reason.”

Reynolds met Field, 69, on the set of their film Smokey and the Bandit in 1977, and they swiftly began dating. They went on to star in four films together and dated for nearly five years before calling it quits.

Reynolds hasn’t been in contact with Field for some time now, but the actor said he recently reconnected with one her sons when Reynolds happened to run into him at a restaurant.

“He came over and told me that he apologized for writing about me in his book, which I didn’t even know he’s written one,” recalled Reynolds. “And I said, ‘Don’t be crazy, don’t be silly. I don’t pay attention to that stuff. You and I are talking right now. I’m really glad to see you and you seem glad to see me and I only have good memories of you,’ and he got very choked up about it and it was so obvious that it was real. I adored the two boys she had.”

And while Reynolds knows that a future romantic relationship might be a bit of a stretch, he hopes to one day at least rekindle a friendship with his former love.

“Very much so,” he said. “I would love that.”
