The deputy and other officers arrived at the home in East Carson City at 2:18 a.m. Saturday, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office said.
Soon afterward, the male suspect came out of the house and opened fire, killing the deputy. Other officers evacuated three children, ages 8 to 13, and one adult from the house, the sheriff’s office said.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval issued a statement Saturday mourning the loss of the deputy.
“I was deeply saddened to hear the news of the untimely death of a Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy and pray for strength and peace for his family and fellow officers during this time of tragedy,” Sandoval said, according to CNN affiliate KOLO.
“The death of this dedicated officer is a sobering reminder of the sacrifices our men and women in uniform courageously make each and every day as they protect our communities.”
