Motel 6 explosion: Bremerton Explosion, — Two people remained unaccounted for Wednesday morning following a gas explosion that destroyed part of a Motel 6 in Bremerton Tuesday night.
An excavator was brought in to carefully move debris in the search for the two people.
A third person that was unaccounted for was found OK at another location Wednesday morning. They had left the scene on their own.
A gas company employee was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with second- and third-degree burns in the explosion.
Police said the report of the gas leak came at 7:54 p.m. The motel was being evacuated when the explosion occurred at 8:24 p.m.
“I knew pulling it was a split-second decision I thought this could cause major pandemonium, me pulling this alarm, but my gut told me to and I’m glad I did because it gave us time to get everyone away from the building,” said motel manager Tonya Hinds.
Tony Perry said he was about 200 feet away and heard the alarm.
“All these people started evacuating from the building and I was taking pictures at the time and you could see smoke coming up,” he said.
“All we could see was a big black cloud coming out, like a mushroom cloud,” he said.
