Mosque bombed: Yemen Mosque Bombing, At least 28 people have been killed and 50 wounded when two suicide bombers attacked a Shiite mosque in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa, local medics said.
Witnesses said the bombings were carried out by a man wearing an explosive belt and another driving a bomb-laden vehicle and targeted worshippers leaving the mosque in the Jarraf district in northern Sanaa.
Islamic State’s Yemen branch have since claimed responsibility for the attacks in a statement on Twitter.
A spokesman from the Houthi-controlled health ministry said the casualty toll was a preliminary figure.
A civil war in Yemen escalated in March when a coalition of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia intervened to roll back the hold of Iran-allied Houthi militia over much of the country and to reinstate the government from its exile in Riyadh.
The Houthis took control of the capital Sanaa a year ago.
More than 4,500 people have been killed in the Arabian Peninsula country’s conflict.
