Miss. sheriff arrested: Alcorn County Sheriff Arrested, The Alcorn County, Mississippi sheriff is locked up, accused of fraud and conspiracy.
The state auditor announced a ten count indictment against Charles Rinehart Monday after an investigation surrounding county cars.
The auditor’s investigation uncovered the sheriff’s department purchased six cars from a business called ‘Cars For Less’ over the past three years.
Investigators said “Cars For Less” owners Teddy and Pamela Null came up with fraudulent quotes representing other vendors to ensure their business was the lowest quote.
Investigators said Sheriff Rinehart submitted those quotes to the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors when it was time to purchase vehicles.
The state auditor said Sheriff Rinehart used his position to manipulate the system.
