Longtime show canceled: Degrassi Canceled, Canada’s MTV announced on Thursday that it had canceled “Degrassi: The Next Generation” after 14 seasons.
The current “Degrassi” series rebooted the franchise in 2001. Epitome Pictures, led by Linda Schuyler and Steven Stohn, has produced the long-running series about teenagers attending a Toronto high school since 1980.
“We are immensely proud of Degrassi, and our longstanding partnership with Linda and Stephen. We wish the entire Epitome team the best of luck, and look forward to working with them again in the future,” Phil King, president of CTV, Sports and Entertainment Programming, said in a statement.
“The Next Generation” helped to launch the careers of Drake, ‘90210’ star Shenae Grimes and Cassie Steele from “The L.A. Complex,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show airs in the U.S. on TeenNick and is licensed in more than 140 territories around the world.
The second-half of the 14th season will premiere on Monday, July 20 and will features 12, half-hour episodes.
