Kevin Bacon’s love life TMI: Kevin Bacon Kyra Sedgwick, Kevin Bacon has revealed how he and wife Kyra Sedgwick dealt with their devastating financial loss after falling victims to Bernie Madoff’s infamous Ponzi scheme – through sex.
The Footloose and X-Men star has not revealed how much the couple lost in the $65 billion Ponzi scheme in 2008, though he admitted it had been ‘a lot of money.’
But the 56-year-old said that he and Sedgwick had refused to let it impact on their marriage.
‘I don’t think there was a moment where it was like, that thing happened and then we got pissed at each other. It was sort of the opposite,’ the actor told GQ on Tuesday.
‘We kind of went, ‘Holy s**t. Let’s . . . I don’t know. Let’s have sex or something. It’s free!’
Madoff is currently serving 150 years in prison for carrying out a $65 billion Ponzi style fraud – which became the largest in US financial history.
The fraudster reeled in many celebrity clients including Larry King and John Malkovich who said he had been financially ruined by the scam.
‘There were so many people who got hit so much harder than us,’ Bacon added. ‘We were going to have each other and our kids were OK. They were through school, almost. We both felt like we would work.’
Not that it was totally smooth sailing.
‘I’m not going to say it didn’t have its emotional downsides,’he told Details magazine. ‘But we’re both young, and we both had the ability to work and roll up our sleeves and start putting the pieces back together. The truth is that we went through it together.’
Bacon and Sedgwick, who have starred in films together, married in 1988 and have two adult children Travis and Sosie.
She starred in award-winning TNT series The Closer for seven years – for which she received an Emmy.
Her husband, who recently starred in Fox hit detective show The Following, said that while such a financial setback could finish some couples, he and his wife ‘knew we were going to have each other and our kids were OK. We both felt like we would work.’
