Jordan Spieth Turns 22
Published: July 27, 2015
Jordan Spieth Turns 22, I know Jordan Spieth doesn’t enjoy the comparisons, but this is the world we live in. The PGA Tour will spin on the Tiger Woods axis for several more years, if not decades. He will be the light with which we illuminate all things.
One of those is Spieth’s incredible career to this point.
We looked last week at how many majors Spieth has through his first 10 starts as a pro (2) compared to Woods (1), but what about their respective standing on their 22nd birthdays?
Why their 22nd birthdays? Well, because Spieth turned 22 on Monday, and you could argue that he’s the most-accomplished 21-year-old in golf history.
On his 22nd birthday, Tiger Woods had 29 PGA Tour starts, six wins, a major and one major top 10 finish. Those numbers are all as a professional. He’d made $2.9 million.
On his 22nd birthday, Jordan Spieth has 77 PGA Tour starts, five wins, two majors and four major top 10 finishes. He’s made $17.4 million.
It needs to be noted how many more starts Spieth has than Woods at the same age. That’s because Tiger didn’t turn pro until the end of the 1996 season when he was already almost 21. Still, it’s not hard to see why everyone pumps up the Texan.
He’s tracking Woods pretty hard right now. The real test will be Spieth’s mid-20s, when Woods did work. Can Spieth keep up? I can’t wait to find out.
