Jessica Sanchez Tonight
Jessica Sanchez Tonight, “I really want to be in this competition. I put my whole heart and soul into that song,” revealed 16-year-old Jessica Sanchez after we talked to her in the “American Idol” press tent.
Dressed in a one-shoulder pink sleeve, blue top, and black mini-skirt, Jessica was now breaking into a smile as we interviewed her. She was almost in tears after her powerful performance of Jennifer Holliday’s “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” which caused the judges – Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler – and the “AI” audience to give her a standing ovation.
“I love that song. I have been singing it since I was a little girl,” she admitted. “I chose it because it meant a lot to me,” she added. The petite humble girl from San Diego, California, confessed that after her harrowing experience of almost getting booted out if not for the judges’ using the one and only chance to save a contestant from leaving the top-rated reality competition, she became more determined to stay in the competition and do her best.
“Randy said I am like an old soul,” she said. “I am secretly 65 years old,” she joked.
Randy was so impressed with Jessica’s performance of that song that he said, “This girl can sing the phonebook! You are really in it to win. That song has been sung so many times in this show but I just don’t know where you get the experience and the phenomenal vocal chords.”
Steven, on the other hand, said, “Another winning performance!”
Jennifer, for her part, was almost speechless. “I have nothing to say,” she admitted. “This is really crazy! Your vocal ability is amazing. You are crying because you have all these emotions when you sang. You are ripping your soul apart. This is a real moment.”
Holliday, in her twitter account (@jennifersspot), called on her fans, followers, and friends to give their votes to the Mexican-Filipina singer.
“Yes, I personally voted for Jessica tonight and also asked all my followers, friends and fans to vote for her!:-),” Holliday said in her twitter account. (Manila Bulletin)
