ISIS threatens D.C.: ISIS Threatens Washington, D.C., On Capitol Hill, police have stepped up security and urged members of Congress and their aides to use underground tunnels instead of walking outside between buildings on Monday morning after ISIS released a video threatening the nation’s capital.
According to a Reuters report, ISIS warns that countries taking part in air strikes against Syria would suffer the same fate as France. The video, which Reuters says appeared on a site used by the Islamic State to post its messages, begins with footage of the aftermath of Friday’s Paris shootings.
Across the District, we found defiance, not fear. In more than a dozen interviews we conducted, with locals and tourists, only one person said he would even consider changing his normal routine.
‘We say to the states that take part in the crusader campaign that, by God, you will have a day God willing, like France’s and by God, as we struck France in the center of Paris, we swear we will strike America at its center in Washington,” a man in the video.
The threat from ISIS may be unnerving.
“You know what,” asked Beverly Fenwick of St. Inigoes. “That is scary.”
But it is not instilling fear in the nation’s capital.
“I’m not going to live in fear,” said Fenwick.
“If we do, that’s what they want,” said Azilea Saunders of Lorton, Va.
