‘Idol’ alum’s restraining order: Constantine Maroulis Restraining Order, Following a domestic violence arrest on Wednesday, Constantine Maroulis filed a temporary restraining order Wednesday against his daughter’s mother Angel Reed, PEOPLE has confirmed.
A representative for Maroulis tells PEOPLE the former American Idol contestant, 39, was a victim, not the aggressor in the altercation that took place in Wyckoff, New Jersey, resulting in his arrest.
“He has injuries on his upper thigh. He was trying to be a nice guy because he is the father of their child and he became the victim,” his rep says.
The rep also tells PEOPLE he’s listened to recordings Maroulis made during the altercation.
“He says, ‘I want to break up with you, don’t hit me, leave me alone, don’t touch me.’ ”
Maroulis, now a Tony-nominated Broadway actor, also filed documents with the local police department in mid-July, stating she had been physically abusing him, destroying his personal items and had alcohol problems, according to his rep.
Reed has been unreachable for comment.
Maroulis is now planning to file for criminal charges against Reed and will be going to civil court to arrange to see his daughter Malena, 4½.
“Police know he is a good guy,” his rep says. “People who know him and know the situation have been incredibly supportive.”
