‘Guardians’ sequel: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2

‘Guardians’ sequel: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2, Guardians Of The Galaxy was a huge hit for writer and director James Gunn but it seems he’s having trouble coming up with an original title for the follow-up. Gunn, 44, revealed Monday the sequel will simply be called Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol. 2. After fans responded with mixed reactions on Twitter, Gunn tweeted: ‘I’m not being sarcastic, guys.’ Apparently, Vol. 2 is the title that Gunn decided is the most apt for the next feature in the Marvel superhero series due for release in May 2017. On his Facebook pager, Dunn went into greater detail about his choice. ‘I came up with a LOT of titles for Vol. 2. But because “Guardians of the Galaxy” is already so wordy, it seemed strange to add another bunch of words after it,’ he wrote. ‘I liked Vol. 2 the best, so that’s what I stuck on the cover of the screenplay – and, fortunately, the guys liked it.’ ‘The guys’ he is referring to are presumably his studio bosses. Anna Faris with Chris Pratt at Guardians Of The Galaxy premiere The sequel will reunite the original cast led by Chris Pratt as Peter Quill and Zoe Saldana as Gomora. Although Gunn has completed a first draft of the screenplay, he’s not giving anything away about the plot line. He only confirmed the title for the second film after Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige let it slip while promoting the newest Marvel release Ant-Man, which premiered in Hollywood on Monday night. But perhaps there is slightly more to the choice of sequel title that initially meets the eye. Pratt’s character Quill, who becomes Star Lord, has a music compilation tape called Awesome Mix Vol. 1. It features pop hits from the 1970s that Quill’s dying mom wanted him to have. Gunn has explained that the songs are an integral part of the first film. ‘It was of songs that she loved and that’s the only thing he has left of his mother and that’s the only thing he has left of his home on Earth,’ the director said. ‘He uses that as a connection to his past and to the sadness that he feels of having left all that and lost all that.’ And indeed, in the movie, Quill is seen rocking around the universe with his Sony Walkman and headphones on listening to the songs his mother gave him while saving the universe at the same time. Maybe, just maybe, he discovers a second volume of hits that inspire him on his new galactic adventures. Guardians of the Galaxy was released on August 1, 2014, and became a box office smash. It grossed more than $774 million worldwide and was the second-highest grossing film in North America that year.
