Grocery chain plans layoffs: Whole Foods Layoffs, High-end grocer Whole Foods says it plans to shrink its workforce by 1.6 per cent in Canada and the U.S. over the next two months.
The chain said in a regulatory filing on Monday that many of the staff reductions will come through attrition. The chain says it expects many workers will find other work in one of the 2,000 job openings the company currently has posted, or at one of the 100 new stores the chain has in development.
A spokesperson for Whole Foods told CBC News in an email that some of the job reductions will come from Canadian stores, but declined to offer any specifics on how many or where there would be layoffs.
The grocery store chain said it has added more than 9,000 jobs in the past year and created nearly 35,000 jobs over the last five years.
