Good news sleepyheads: Seattle Schools Start Time

Good news sleepyheads: Seattle Schools Start Time, The Seattle School Board voted Wednesday night to change school start times for the 2016-17 school year.
Approval for the changes was partly based on research that shows teenagers are more alert later in the morning.
Starting next fall, high school start times will be pushed back and hour to 8:45 a.m. Most middle school students will also start at that same time.
Most elementary schools will start at 7:55 a.m. but, some will start as late as 9:35 a.m.
“It’s a good compromise,” said Jonathan Knapp, President of the Seattle Education Association. “With this, more than 83% of Seattle school children’s academic work will now be better aligned with their sleep need.”
But some parents and opponents say the move doesn’t consider the needs of all students.
“It’s not a win, it’s not a win unless it’s the best learning start times for all the kids in this district,” said Carin Towne.
The district says it had to stagger the start times based on transportation resources and costs.
