Freeway shooting probe: Arizona Freeway Shootings, Three teenagers in Arizona were arrested on Sunday for shooting rocks at cars and pedestrians with slingshots, but are unlikely connected to the other recent freeway shooting incidents in the area.
The 18-year-old teenagers were charged with criminal damage and conspiracy, according to KNXV. They admitted to throwing rocks with slingshots at six people and seven cars.
“My message there, to kids that are thinking this is kind of cool to do this and let’s see what we can do, is they’re all in jail. They’ve probably impacted their lives negatively for some time to come because no they’ll all end up with criminal records if we do a good job,” Arizona’s Department of Public Safety Frank Milstead said.
The teenagers, however, are allegedly not linked to the string of recent freeway shootings in Maricopa County in Arizona. Officials said they are likely “copycats” of the incident.
Investigators in Arizona are investigating 11 freeway shootings dating back to August, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. The latest incident occurred last Thursday.
Silent Witness is offering $20,000 to anyone with information on the incidents.
