Feels like drag queen: Vergara Drag Queen

Feels like drag queen: Vergara Drag Queen, As bottoms go, few could hope to eclipse the world-beating behind of Kim Kardashian. But if anyone was going to do it, Sofia Vergara would be the one.

In fact, you get the impression nothing much stands in the way of America’s highest-paid TV actress.

“I’m going up for sexiest ass against Kim Kardashian and she’s, like, 10 years younger than me,” the 43-year-old says after featuring in hottest women polls.

“She should be upset she’s up against me. I think I beat her once or twice.

“I’ve met her at red carpet things and she is just the most beautiful women anywhere so somebody is going crazy to put me on these lists.”

Particularly as Sofia has a rather different impression of how she looks.

“Sometimes I look in the mirror and think I look like a drag queen,” she says. “I’m a woman, but I’m very exaggerated with my boobs, my ass, how I do my make-up, and my accent, of course.”

Yet things seem to be falling perfectly into place for the Latin superstar, who has plugged away relentlessly to lift herself from her hard-knocks Colombian roots to success in Hollywood.

She’s currently stealing the show in comedy film Hot Pursuit, with Reese Witherspoon, which opened at the weekend.

And she enjoys continuing success as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the popular Sky One show Modern Family. It has won 21 Emmys, with series seven on its way.

Sofia, worth an estimated £24million, has been up for 30 acting awards and was Forbes’ 32nd most powerful woman of 2014, beating US Vogue editor Anna Wintour to 39, talkshow host Ellen DeGeneres to 46 and Angelina Jolie to 50.

And if that wasn’t reason enough for Sofia to flash her winning smile, she’s planning a fairy-tale wedding to Magic Mike actor Joe Manganiello, 38.

“There is a lot to organise,” she says of planning a November ceremony in Florida. “I want all my friends from Colombia, South America and Europe to make it.”

The first dance should certainly be interesting. Joe got millions of women hot under the collar with his stripping routines in Magic Mike XXL, though Sofia got her own private show at home.

“Joe had to practise and I had to give my opinion,” she laughs. “What can I say? He is a sexy man. I’m very lucky.”

Away from the red carpet Joe and Sofia – who has a son, 23, from her first marriage – enjoy a quiet life. “You see all the flash bulbs and fans at the premiere, but you don’t see us away from all that,” she says. “It’s normal life; going grocery shopping, going out with friends, watching movies, spending lots of time with my son. It’s boring, normal.”

But a touch of normal must be welcome for the screen siren, who is embroiled in a bitter legal battle with her ex-fiance, businessman Nick Loeb, 39, over embryos they froze during their relationship. They had planned to start a family through IVF.

Sofia became engaged to Nick in 2012, two years before their split in May 2014. The actress and the banking heir had started a course of IVF, and implanted one embryo in a surrogate – Sofia’s friend and employee.

Court papers state she gave the woman gifts worth approximately £128,000 and covered her mortgage payments, but the embryo did not take.

They decided to undergo a second round of IVF but then split up. Loeb wants to implant the two remaining embryos and become a father; Sofia wants them destroyed.

The actress pleaded for the row to stay confidential, but Loeb spoke out. Pro-life groups turned up to the Hollywood premiere of Magic Mike with placards saying: “Sofia: unfreeze your daughters. Unfreeze your heart.”

The star told TV’s Good Morning America earlier this year: “I don’t think it’s fair. It shouldn’t be out there for people to give their opinion when there’s nothing to talk about. I really want to make this the last time I talk about it.”

Sofia is now focusing on her wedding and career. Born in Colombia to a cattle producer, she became a teenage model and starred in a Pepsi advert at 17.

At 18, she married high school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez and gave birth aged 20 to their son, Manolo. The couple divorced a year later.

Sofia then moved to the US, where she worked as a TV presenter while struggling to make it in Hollywood.

Tragedy hit in 1998 when her older brother, Rafael, was murdered in a bungled kidnapping attempt. Two years later, Sofia was diagnosed with cancer and had her thyroid removed. She is now in remission.

Despite guests spots on the TV series Entourage and small parts in movies Four Brothers and Chasing Papi, she still failed to get a break. It finally came with flop US sitcom The Knights of Prosperity. Sofia wowed producers so much they wrote a part for her in a new pilot, Modern Family. It aired in 2009 and became a hit overnight.

Despite her roller-coaster life, Sofia does not regret becoming a mum so young. She says: “I think it helps when he grows up and you are like friends, as well as mother and son. It’s fantastic to have your kids young, because you have so much energy.”

And Sofia still seems to have her fair share of energy. She and Reese are a sparkling combination in Hot Pursuit. “I think my family’s really funny,” she says. “Colombian people need that because we come from times that were tough, and sometimes the only way to survive that was to make fun of ourselves and those situations.”

She adds of the film: “I think one of the funniest moments for me was when [Reese] speaks Spanish, which was ridiculous.”
