Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a younger incarnation of Bruce Willis’ hitman killer in new film ‘Looper,’ the young actor has revealed receiving praise from his on-screen older self was the highlight of the shoot. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ actor was astounded when the ‘Die Hard’ star said good things about his abilities on set. According to Contact Music, Joe said of Mr Willis: ”He’s a very understated guy, which I admire.

It means you know he’s being honest.” ”But we were doing a scene where we were yelling at each other and between takes he said, in his off-the-cuff manner, ‘Ah, you sound like me.’” ”That was a moment of glorious victory for me. I kept it cool, I didn’t want to embarrass myself, but I was grinning ear to ear on the inside.” Aw! The 31-year-old star spent three hours every day in makeup to get him looking more like Bruce, including having a prosethic nose fitted and his eyebrow ‘realligned’.

Joseph also studied Bruce’s acting tecnique meticulously by watching his films and studying his voice and body language, to ensure his portrayal was accurate: ”I watched his movies a lot, but I focused on the recent ones. I was less interested in coming off like a young Bruce – I was interested in matching him now.”

Chicago Tylenol Murders, On September 29, 1982, 12-year-old Mary Kellerman woke up with a sore throat, so her parents gave her Tylenol. Later that morning, her parents found her dead on the bathroom floor. That same morning in another part of town, 27-year-old postal worker Adam Ja**s was found lying on the floor of his home with difficulty breathing. He died at the hospital. When the Ja**s family later gathered at his house to make funeral arrangements, Adam’s brother and his fiancee had headaches.

They each swallowed Tylenol from a bottle they had found on Adam’s kitchen counter. They then collapsed on the kitchen floor and eventually died. By October 1, seven people in the Chicago area had died suddenly and mysteriously. The cause turned out to be Tylenol bottles that were laced with Cyanide, Crime Library reported.

Exactly thirty years later, authorities are still trying to figure out who poisoned the bottles. “It’s a horrific crime and it’s gone unsolved,” an FBI spokesperson told ABC News. No one has been charged with the murders.

But this week the Chicago Sun-Times reported that state prosecutors are considering commissioning a grand jury to compel more witness statements. No decision about the grand jury had been made yet. Authorities have long suspected that a man named James W. Lewis may be responsible for poisoning the bottles. Lewis had served 12 years in prison for sending an extortion note to Johnson & Johnson, Tylenol’s parent company, demanding $1 million to “stop the killings.” And in 2009, the FBI searched his home, Fox News reported. Yet even though Lewis was imprisoned for extortion related to the murders, he was never charged with the actual murders.

Girl Scout Cookie Boxes, Girl Scout Cookies, a perennial U.S. snack favorite, will get a new-look package for the upcoming sales season, the organization said on Friday. The new design will showcase five entrepreneurial skills that the $790 million business teaches girls, the Girl Scouts said in a statement.

“We have more than 50 million cookie customers across the country, and the cookie box is the most tangible and powerful way for us to communicate directly with consumers,” said Girl Scouts of the USA Chief Executive Anna Maria Chávez.

The skills that will be displayed are goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics.

The new boxes feature the group’s trefoil emblem and they show girls kayaking, working in a park and speaking at scout events, among other activities.

The new look is part of a Girl Scouts brand renewal as the 3.2 million-member organization marks its 100th birthday. The last cookie package makeover was in 1999.

Anthem Worldwide, a unit of marketer Schawk Inc, did the redesign. David Hume Kennerly, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer, took pictures of Girl Scouts from the New York area for the boxes.(Reuters)

Fox Broadcasts Suicide, A man who stole a car at gunpoint, shot at Phoenix police officers and then led them on a chase that ended with his suicide broadcast on national television was identified Saturday as a wanted felon with a long criminal history.

Jodon F. Romero, 33, was wanted for violating his parole for a weapons conviction and had numerous other violent crimes in his background, police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson said.

At the end of an hour-long pursuit on an interstate west of Phoenix on Friday, Romero pulled into the desert and an officer shot at him, although it appears he missed, Thompson said. Romero then walked off the dirt road, put a gun to his head and killed himself.

Fox News was covering the chase that began about midday Friday using a live helicopter shot from Phoenix affiliate KSAZ-TV. Anchor Shepard Smith told viewers that the video was supposed to be on a delay so it could be cut off if something went awry.

“We really messed up, and we’re all very sorry,” Smith said minutes after the suicide aired. Fox apologized for showing the violence on air. KSAZ itself was not airing the chase.

On Saturday, Thompson said police did everything in their power to de-escalate the situation, but Romero seemed intent on continuing a crime spree that began with a minor incident in which he apparently hit a passing car with his hand, leading to a call to police.

As officers were heading to the south Phoenix area, they learned that a Dodge Caliber sedan had just been stolen at gunpoint from a nearby restaurant parking lot. (AP)

The Tigers used a throw-back to quarterback Kiehl Frazier for their trick play to tie the game at 14 and then took the lead off of a Hail Mary play at the end of the half.

Frazier worked his way out of trouble and found Sammie Coats in the back of the end zone. Coats outjumped several Louisiana-Monroe defenders to come down with the ball in one of the most improbable catches we’ve seen this season.

Big Wallop In Lingerie League Game, This league’s women don’t get much credit for playing hard, but Nikki Johnson might change your view. Video: Nikki Johnson of the Lingerie Football League has the hit of the year so far, You may think that the Lingerie Football League is all about exploitation and silliness, and well … yes it is. Let’s not fool ourselves. But these ladies do love themselves some football, and if you think they don’t take it seriously when they’re in the arena, I give you this wallop laid by one Nikki Johnson of the Regina Rage.

I’m not sure what the formation is here, but it’s a standard quarterback option, and Ms. Johnson would not be denied. Veering around the left side in the direction of the end zone, Johnson took out defender Davine Burton of the Toronto Triumph to score with a hit that Cam Newton would be proud of — if Cam Newton ran over scantily-clad women on an indoor football field. And we’re not suggesting that he would.

Ms. Johnson is quite the passer in her league — through five games in the 2012 season, she’s completed 41 of 73 passes for 384 yards, 12 touchdowns and one interception. Her hero is Peyton Manning (at least that’s what her Facebook page said when she played for the Las Vegas Sin), but we doubt that Peyton could put a crusher on Darrelle Revis like Johnson did on Burton.

Seven Signs You Have A Shopping Problem, If you start to get these kinds of feelings during and after purchases, you could be addicted. 7 Signs You’re A Shopaholic, It’s one thing to surrender to the occasional impulse buy – that watch gleaming from behind the display case, or a pair of black shoes that will add the perfect dash of sophistication to your favorite business suit. But when your purchases shift from impulsive to compulsive, it’s the first sign that you might be grappling with a more serious condition: a shopping addiction.

Researchers estimate that up to 6 percent of Americans are so-called shopaholics. And with retailers ramping up their promotions on TV and even more intensely online, this number is likely to rise. In our society, the phrase “shop till you drop” translates as frivolous and fun, but when spending presents a real problem, the glamor fades.

Psychologists call it Compulsive Buying Disorder, which is characterized as an impulse-control issue – just like gambling or binge eating – and has the potential to create a whirlwind of emotional and financial distress.

In the video below, Money Talks News founder Stacy Johnson reveals some of the telltale signs of shopaholics and explains what they can do to curb their spending.

Are you or a loved one a shopaholic? Here are seven signs of a potential problem. For a more complete*n*lysis, also check out the Compulsive Buying Scale, developed by psychologist Gilles Valence and his associates.

1. You have many unopened or tagged items in your closet
We’re not talking about the sweater your aunt gave you last holiday season, but about items you selected on your own that sit unopened or with their tags still attached. You likely even forgot about some of these possessions – boxes of shoes lining the bottom of your closet or jackets that have never seen the light of day.

2. You often purchase things you don’t need or didn’t plan to buy
You’re easily tempted by items that you can do without. A fifth candle for your bedroom dresser, a new iPod case, even though yours is fine you get the idea. You’re particularly vulnerable if you’ve admitted to having an “obsession,” like shoes or designer handbags. Just because your splurges tend to stick to one category doesn’t make them any more rational.

3. An argument or frustration sparks an urge to shop
Compulsive shopping is an attempt to fill an emotional void, like loneliness, lack of control, or lack of self-confidence. Shopaholics also have a tendency to suffer from mood disorders, eating disorders, or substance abuse problems. So if you tend to binge on comfort food after a bad day, studies suggest that you may be more likely to indulge in a shopping spree too.

4. You experience a rush of excitement when you buy
Shopaholics experience a “high” or an adrenaline rush, not from owning something, but from the act of purchasing it. Experts say dopamine, a brain chemical associated with pleasure, is often released in waves as shoppers see a desirable item and consider buying it. This burst of excitement can become addictive.

5. Purchases are followed by feelings of remorse
This guilt doesn’t have to be limited to big purchases, either; compulsive shoppers are just as often attracted to deals and bargain hunting. Despite any remorse that follows, though, shopaholics are adept at rationalizing just about any purchase if challenged.

6. You try to conceal your shopping habits
If you’re hiding shopping bags in your daughter’s closet or constantly looking over your shoulder for passing co-workers as you shop online, this is a possible sign that you’re spending money at the expense of your family, your loved ones, or even your job.

7. You feel anxious on the days you don’t shop
It’s one thing to feel anxious if you haven’t had your morning cup of joe, but if you’re feeling on edge because you haven’t swiped your debit card all day, be concerned. Shopaholics have reported feeling “out of sorts” if they haven’t had their shopping fix, and have even admitted to shopping online if they couldn’t physically pull away from their day’s responsibilities.

These Stars Are Getting A ‘Dream’ Teacher, The New York Knicks will receive some hoops training from one of the greatest big men of all time. The Knicks are keeping Hakeem Olajuwon all to themselves, hiring the legend to work with the team’s big men, In recent years, Basketball Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon has acted as a sensei-for-hire of sorts for stars like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Dwight Howard. All have taken the summer trek down to Olajuwon’s Texas home to work through the same sort of low-post tutelage that Moses Malone gave Olajuwon as a young buck some 30 years ago.

The New York Knicks are desperately trying to find a way to mesh the formidable talents of Tyson Chandler, Amar’e Stoudmire and Carmelo Anthony, turning a star-studded frontcourt into a championship-level core. They’ve yet to find consistent chemistry while on the court together, the team plays far better with Anthony taking Stoudemire’s place up front, Chandler and Carmelo could still use some footwork tips, and Stoudemire has already worked under Olajuwon this summer.

Then there’s the upcoming NBA training camps, which mean players can’t individually fly to Texas to get that one-on-one work. Olajuwon (a former teammate of current Knicks coach Mike Woodson) wants to help, for a price, and the Knicks need the tutelage. Why not make Hakeem the guy who is flying in this time. Eh? Eh. Go New York, go New York, go.

From ESPN’s Chris Broussard:

Hakeem Olajuwon, one of the greatest players in NBA history and the architect of the legendary “Dream Shake” post move, will spend several days next week training some of their players at the team’s practice facility in Greenburgh, N.Y.

Olajuwon worked out with Stoudemire earlier this summer, training the Knicks center for two-and-a-half weeks in the gymnasium on his 400-acre ranch outside of Houston. Olajuwon, who was able to excel alongside superstar teammates Ralph Sampson and Clyde Drexler, said there’s no reason Stoudemire and Anthony can’t have similar success playing next to one another.

“They both have to realize that the most important thing is not how great you are individually,” Olajuwon said. “You’re remembered for how many games you win. So to get to play with another great offensive player should help you. It should make your job easier. You have to work well together. You can’t be competitors with one another.”

Think Twice Before Drinking Diet Soda, Sure, it has no calories – but it can increase your risk of heart disease and weight gain. Pop quiz! What’s the single biggest source of calories for Americans? White bread? Big Macs? Actually, try soda. The average American drinks about two cans of the stuff every day. “But I drink diet soda,” you say. “With no calories or sugar, it’s the perfect alternative for weight watchers…Right?”

Not so fast. Before you pop the top off the caramel-colored bubbly, know this: guzzling diet soda comes with its own set of side effects that may harm your health–from kickstarting kidney problems to adding inches to your waistline.

Unfortunately, diet soda is more in vogue than ever. Kids consume the stuff at more than double the rate of last decade, according to research in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Among adults, consumption has grown almost 25%.

Goalie Admits To Ridiculously Lucky Save, A goalkeeper is completely fooled but makes an awesome move he calls “incredibly dangerous.” Cagliari scored in the 88th minute against Palermo to salvage a 1-1 draw, but goalkeeper Michael Agazzi’s “dangerous” save early in the match was just as impressive as Marco Sau’s late equalizer.

A swerving Fabrizio Miccoli free kick from considerable distance in the 27th minute caught Agazzi falling towards the post as the ball curled behind him. Agazzi reacted quickly though and managed to make the save with a falling backheel.

After the match, Agazzi had a sense of humor about it. From Football Italia:

“It’s a save I study in training,” joked Agazzi on Sky Sport Italia.

“I was incredibly lucky! Would I be able to repeat it? Certainly, but I’d wreck my knee! I already snapped one cruciate ligament in my career.

“It really was an incredibly dangerous save to make.”

Unknown College Player’s Remarkable Day, Cal’s Brendan Bigelow rarely touches the ball, but he looks like a star in the making. Excuse me, Cal RB Brendan Bigelow would like to introduce himself (VIDEO), Before Saturday’s game, no one really knew the name Brendan Bigelow.

But after Cal’s 35-28 loss to Ohio State, Bigelow was all anyone could talk about.

Bigelow, who had two carries coming into the game and just six total in his career, rushed four times for 160 yards and two scores.

Yep, that’s a 40-yard average if you’re scoring at home.

Bigelow appeared to be stopped for about a four-yard gain, but spun out of it, used his hand on the ground to keep his balance and ended up streaking down the sideline for an 81-yard score.

It was clear that Ohio State had given up on the play thinking Bigelow was down. But Bigelow showed great balance and determination to stay on his feet and keep going.

Thanks for showing up, Miami fans (PHOTO), The University of Miami would like to thank all 300 people who came out today to support the Hurricanes.

This is how the stadium looked when the Hurricanes came out of the tunnel for Saturday’s game against Bethune-Cookman. And it didn’t get much better as the game went on. Everyone out tailgating stayed in the parking lot instead of watching what was ultimately a 38-10 Miami win.

What fans missed was freshman running back Duke Johnson scoring four touchdowns in three different ways, including a 95-yard kick return, a 50-yard touchdown reception and runs of 1 and 28 yards.

Just Sad: The 10 Wimpiest Muscle Cars Ever, The 1978 Ford Mustang King Cobra had a V-8, but it only produced a meager 139 hp. 10 wimpiest muscle cars ever, There’s a dead zone in the history of performance cars between the hairy-chested muscle cars of the 1960s and the rebirth of power in the mid-1980s: the 1972-82 “malaise era,” when machines were so strangled by new emissions rules that their performance levels were an embarrassment to even today’s compact cars. Automakers slathered flashy paint and taped racy stripes and stickers to the hoods of the cars, but these 10 just couldn’t get’er done at the dragstrip.

Ford’s legendary performance car hit its nadir with the downsized Pinto-based Mustangs of 1974-1978, called Mustang II. Although this generation of Mustang came with a V-8, it was a 302 cid V-8 with a mere 139 hp. Yes, you read that right. Second-gen Mustangs pumped out just 19 more hp than you’d get from the 1.6-liter four-cylinder in today’s Ford Fiesta.

Coca-Cola Flavor Drops, Coca-Cola’s newest drink won’t come in a bottle or a can. And people will only need a squirt or two to quench their thirst.

The world’s largest beverage company is introducing its Dasani Drops in coming weeks, which can be squeezed into water for some on-the-spot fruity flavor. And Coca-Cola is betting that there’s big potential for growth.

“I think there’s an opportunity beyond just flavored waters,” said John Roddey, vice president of Coca-Cola’s water, tea and coffee business in North America.

Although there are no set plans yet, Roddey says the next logical category for liquid drops would be tea. That’s because drinks with higher sugar content are harder to turn into a liquid concentrate.

The Coca-Cola Co. isn’t the first to come out with flavor drops. The category was pioneered by Kraft Food Inc.’s MiO, which was introduced in March of last year and has quickly spawned copycats, including by supermarkets that sell store-brand versions.

The drops are popular because they come in small, portable containers that can be easily tucked into a purse or even back pocket. And unlike powdered drink packets, people can decide how much or little they want to squirt into their water. A small bottle can also have more than two dozen servings, meaning people save money they’d spend on bottled teas or enhanced waters.

Lame Game Franchises That Just Won’t Die, One Wii series has bombed over and over with critics, but still sold more than 3 million copies. The worst game franchises they keep making games for, Despite good intentions, bad games happen. What’s really astonishing, though, is when a bad game gets a sequel, followed by another one.And another. And another.

How do game franchises continue to exist despite critical drubbings and, often, sales that don’t begin to compare to the haul of other titles that never see a second chapter?

The reasons are often budgetary. The games that critics (and most gamers) can’t stand cost virtually nothing to make, so they’re profitable even with minimal sales. Or in some cases, they started strong and built a loyal following of players who are so conditioned to buying each new release that they don’t realize how much the quality has suffered over the years.

And when it comes to quality, you won’t find much left in these seven troubled franchises. But you’ll find plenty of quantity.

As Kotaku recently pointed out, the four previous games in this lousy Wii mini-game series have a combined Metacritic average of 31. That’s humiliating. But the series has sold over 3 million copies, which has earned it a new installment for the Wii U.

Game Party originated at Midway, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment scooped it up (along with more valuable assets), and with the launch of the new platform, the publisher knows that parents are going to be looking for family-friendly software to go with it.

CSI might be one of the biggest television franchises of the past 12 years, but as a video game series it belongs in the morgue.

Ubisoft released the first one in 2003, though the series peaked in 2006 when CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: 3 Dimensions of Murder got a not-terrible Metacritic score of 67. Since 2010, though, scores have hovered in the high 30s and mid-40s, with some titles just being entirely ignored by critics. Most recently, the series made the shift to iOS, bringing bad mystery gaming to a whole new audience.

Doctors Call On Country To Ban Spanking, Experts call the practice – shown to increase drug abuse and anxiety – “poor parenting.” Canadian Experts Call for Nationwide Ban on Spanking, Canada’s top medical journal has called for the repeal of the country’s 120-year-old “spanking law,” which allows corporal punishment. In a strongly worded editorial published on September 4, John Fletcher, the editor-in-chief of the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ), called physical punishment an “anachronistic excuse for poor parenting.” The editorial accompanies a meta-analysis of 20 years of research about the ill effects of spanking, conducted by Joan Durant PhD of the University of Manitoba, first published in February and reprinted in the current volume of the CMAJ.

An estimated fifty percent of Canadian parents spank their children, and Canada, like the United States, protects parents’ right to physically discipline kids. Section 43 of the Canadian Criminal Code states, “A parent is justified in using force by way of correction if the force does not exceed what is reasonable under the circumstances.” Worldwide, more than 30 countries prohibit corporal punishment in the home including Austria, New Zealand, and Sweden.

Fletcher and Durant argue that current research shows spanking is an ineffective tool and that there is substantial evidence linking it to mental health issues including depression and substance abuse as well as to increased aggressive behavior. “Surely any bias should be toward protecting children, who are the most vulnerable,” writes Fletcher. “To have a specific code excusing parents is to suggest that assault by a parent is a normal and accepted part of bringing up children. It is not. While section 43 stands, it is a constant excuse for parents to cling to an ineffective method of child discipline when better approaches are available.”

Spanking is a controversial issue in Canada, and Section 43 has been contested a number of times. Most recently, in 2004, the Supreme Court upheld it in a 6-3 ruling. A United Nations panel on children’s rights has called on the country to repeal the law. In response to the CMAJ, a spokesperson for Minister of Justice Rob Nicholson told the National Post, “Parents are in the best position to raise their children. We believe it is up to them, not the government, to decide what is best for their children so long as it is within reason.”

Police: Ex-girlfriend Triggers Bomb Hoax, A SWAT team – with guns drawn – boards the plane and apprehends the traveling salesman. Police: Angry Ex-Girlfriend Triggered US Airways Bomb Hoax, A bomb hoax in Philadelphia that turned a Dallas-bound flight around and led to a full-scale SWAT response was apparently triggered by a spiteful ex-girlfriend who telephoned authorities to say her former beau was aboard the US Air flight armed with liquid explosives, police told ABC News.

According to authorities, Christopher Shell, a salesman in his 20′s who travels between Philadelphia and Dallas, had no explosives and is cooperating with authorities. He appears to have been the victim of a cruel joke.

When asked how Shell reacted when police took him off the plane, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Joseph Sullivan said at a news conference, “He was obviously very alarmed as I would be if heavily armed police entered a plane to take me off…he was certainly stunned.”

However, in an unlikely coincidence, Shell had been sped through security by a friend at the airport and posted a message to his Facebook page that getting through security had been a breeze.

The note would have been innocuous in any other circumstance, officials said. In the context of the phoned-in threat alarms went off and bomb techs, cops, FBI agents and K-9 dogs descended on the flight and conducted a full search.

The ex-girlfriend and a man believed to be a current boyfriend are now in custody, sources said. According to sources, they appear to have perpetrated the hoax bomb threat and are being questioned by federal authorities in Philadelphia. Neither the FBI nor the U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia would comment. No charges have been brought against anyone at this time, sources say.

A lot has changed since then, and Richardone — who retired on Wednesday at the age of 92, after a record-breaking 73 years of service in the N.Y. flagship store — has seen it all.

“Rose is an hourly worker. She clocked in every day,” Robin Hall, Senior VP of the Macy’s Parade and Entertainment Group, told Yahoo! Shine in an interview. “It’s just a passion of hers to be here. She’s not a person who seeks attention. She just loves to work.”

Born in Pennsylvania, Rose Syracuse and her family moved to New York when she was just a child, so that her brothers wouldn’t have to end up working in the coal mines. The family settled down in Brooklyn, where they watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade every year.

She started working for Macy’s in 1939, as an authorizer in the Deposit of Accounts department of the flagship store on 34th Street in New York City. She was a 17-year-old girl fresh out of high school, and had never worked anywhere else before.

“There was actually a bank on the fourth floor of the store,” she told the New York Daily News in 2008. “At that time, there were no credit cards. People set aside money with us to use in the store. They would send up the sales receipt in the pneumatic tubes, which would suck them up and we would authorize purchases.”

In 1939, Macy’s was “a one-stop store,” Richardone said. “You could get meat, straight pins, really anything,” she said in 2008. “We had an apothecary, liquor store, and even a butcher shop. We have obviously evolved since then.”

She didn’t shop at Macy’s before she started working there (“I couldn’t afford Macy’s at that time!” she exclaimed), though when she married Carmine Richardone in 1944 they bought their furniture there. And in 1947, she and other employees watched as “Miracle on 34th Street” was filmed inside the store.

NFL Player’s Surprising Gift To His Parents, Morris Claiborne reportedly purchased this unique, Cowboys-themed present for them. Morris Claiborne’s tricked-out present to his parents, Morris Claiborne signed a $16 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys in July. One of his big purchases with his money? A shiny, custom car for his parents telling the world where their son works.

According to Busted Coverage, this car has been spotted around Shreveport, La., Claiborne’s hometown. The design makes it quite clear to any viewer that someone who really loves Mo Claiborne is driving it.

And what a nice gift to give to the parents who have supported him through his football career before he was drafted by the Cowboys in April. Of course, as soon as this is published, I expect a call from my mother asking why I haven’t bought her a Yahoo! Sports-themed car.
