‘Drag queen’ Sofia Vergara
Published: August 3, 2015
‘Drag queen’ Sofia Vergara, FEW women could hope to eclipse Kim Kardashian’s outstanding behind. But if anyone was going to do it, you could bet your bottom dollar it would be Sofia Vergara .
In fact, you get the impression nothing much stands in the way of television’s highest-paid actress.
The 43-year-old, who often features in polls of the world’s most beautiful women, said: “I’m going up for sexiest ass against Kim Kardashian and she’s like 10 years younger than me.
“She should be upset she’s up against me. I think I beat her once or twice.
“I’ve met her at red carpet events and she is just the most beautiful woman anywhere so somebody is going crazy to put me on these lists.
“Sometimes I look in the mirror and think I look like a drag queen. I’m a woman, but I’m very exaggerated with my boobs, my ass, how I do my make-up – and my accent, of course.”
Yet despite her surprising take on her own looks, things seem to be falling perfectly into place for the superstar, who has plugged away relentlessly to lift herself from her hard-knocks Colombian roots to success in Hollywood.
Sofia is best known for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in Sky1’s smash-hit Modern Family, which has won 21 Emmys and is set for a seventh series.
And she yet again steals the show in comedy film Hot Pursuit, co-starring Reese Witherspoon, which opened at the weekend.
Sofia, who is worth an estimated £24million, has been up for 30 acting awards and was named Forbes magazine’s 57th most powerful woman of 2015 – just behind Angelina Jolie at No54.

And if that wasn’t reason enough for the actress to flash her winning smile, she’s planning a fairy-tale wedding to Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello, 38.
Sofia, who is set for a November wedding in Florida, said: “There is a lot to organise. I want all my friends from Colombia, South America and Europe to make it.”
The first dance could be interesting. After all, Joe got millions of women hot under the collar with his stripping routines in Magic Mike XXL, though Sofia got her own private show at home.
She said: “Joe had to practise and I had to give my opinion. What can I say? He is a sexy man. I’m very lucky.”
Away from the red carpet, Joe and Sofia – who has a son, 23, from her first marriage – enjoy a quiet life.
She said: “You see all the flash bulbs and fans at the premiere, but you don’t see us away from all that.
“It’s normal life – going grocery shopping, going out with friends, watching movies, spending lots of time with my son. It’s boring. Normal.”
A touch of normal must be welcome for the screen siren, who is embroiled in a bitter legal battle with her ex-fiance Nick Loeb, 39, over embryos they froze during their relationship.
Sofia got engaged to the banking heir in 2012 and they had planned to start a family through IVF.
They had a course of treatment, with one embryo implanted in a surrogate – a friend and employee of Sofia’s.
Court papers state she gave the woman gifts worth approximately £128,000 and covered her mortgage payments, but the embryo did not take.
They decided to undergo a second round of IVF but then the couple split up last May.
Loeb wants to implant the two remaining embryos and become a father but Sofia wants them destroyed.
After Loeb went public about the row, pro-life groups turned up to the Hollywood premiere of Magic Mike XXL with placards saying: “Sofia: unfreeze your daughters. Unfreeze your heart.”
The star told Good Morning America earlier this year: “I don’t think it’s fair. I really want to make this the last time I talk about it.”
Born in Colombia to a cattle farmer, Sofia became a teenage model and starred in a Pepsi advert aged 17.
At 18, she married her high-school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez. She was 20 when they had their son, Manolo, but the couple divorced a year later.
Sofia then moved to the US, where she worked as a TV presenter while struggling to make it in Hollywood.
