Director: Affleck ‘suspicious’: David Fincher Suspicious

Director: Affleck ‘suspicious’: David Fincher Suspicious, Callin’ it like he saw it. In DVD commentary of 2014 hit Gone Girl, director David Fincher admitted that he would be “suspicious” of Ben Affleck if he were Jennifer Garner – based on the actor’s on-set talents.
In the thriller (based on Gillian Flynn’s bestseller of the same name), Affleck, 42, plays a cheating husband who becomes the number one suspect after his wife goes missing.
Fincher explains that the actor had an uncanny ability to make up fake phone conversations to keep his on-screen wife in the dark about his philandering ways.
“This is something that Ben is extraordinarily good at, when he has to cook up a phone conversation, when he has to hear somebody on the other end of the phone,” the director said on the commentary, according to the New York Daily News.
“It’s kinda stunning how if I was his wife, I think I would be very suspicious, always, of whoever just called because he has a real gift at being able to insinuate a conversation,” he continued.
Affleck and Garner, 43, announced their decision to part ways after 10 years of marriage on June 30, amid reports that the Argo actor had cheated on Garner numerous times over the years.
The couple have three kids together – Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3.
According to Fincher, Affleck was a natural on-set for Gone Girl, especially when he had to “do these things in the foreground where he takes out his phone and looks at it and he puts it away so his sister doesn’t see it.”
“There are people who do that and it’s too pointed,” Fincher joked in the DVD commentary. “But Ben is very, very subtle and there’s a kind of indirectness to the way he can do those things. Probably because he’s so duplicitous.”
At present, both Affleck and Garner have been spotted out and about with their wedding bands on; Affleck is in San Diego for Comic-Con, and Garner is currently filming in Atlanta, Ga.
An insider previously told Us that the split hasn’t been easy for the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice actor either.
“Ben is distraught over the divorce and is having a very hard time,” the source told Us. “He doesn’t have a lot of close friends to lean on right now, and Jennifer has always been the one he goes to.”
