‘Cosby’ star: Bill’s guilty: Joseph C Phillips, Another one of Bill Cosby’s former costars is speaking out about the numerous allegations of sexual assault that have been leveled against the comedian over the past year.
Joseph C. Phillips, who played Cosby’s son-in-law on The Cosby Show, writes in a blog post on his personal website that everyone on set knew of Cosby’s alleged infidelities – “Bill sleeping around was a ‘fact’ that, like the air, seemed to just be. You didn’t have to see it or hear it to know that it existed.”
Phillips, however, writes that neither he nor the rest of the cast had any idea that Cosby’s relations with these women could have been non-consensual.
However, as more women came forward, Phillips was forced to consider that his “boyhood idol” might be guilty. “Discovering that the man you idolize may be a serial rapist is a bit traumatic,” wrote the actor in his blog post titled “Of Course Bill Cosby Is Guilty!” “I don’t imagine it is anything near to the trauma of the alleged victims. Nevertheless, I found it unsettling.”
Phillips writes that his mind was made up when he ran into an old friend who was once mentored by Cosby. “Back in the day,” he asked her, “I remember that you knew Bill – that he was like your mentor or something. Did he ever ”
That’s when Phillips said the woman broke down and “cursed” Cosby for “violating both her trust and body. She cursed herself for not being smarter, and for degrading herself in the pursuit of success.”
The actor concludes his blog with the admission that he is “not prepared to simply dismiss [Cosby’s] brilliance, his wisdom, or his legacy,” advising Cosby to “go live a quiet country life. Allow those of us who truly love you to preserve just a bit of our enchantment.”
Cosby has never been charged with a crime. Read Phillips’ full post over at his site.
