Cops: Pair’s bodies found: Phoenix Area Couple Bodies, The bodies of a man and a woman believed to be a Phoenix-area couple missing for a week have been recovered, authorities said early Thursday, and a man was in custody.
The bodies of a man and a woman recovered at a property on West Papago Road in Maricopa are believed to be that of Mike and Tina Careccia, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said in a statement early Thursday morning.
Deupties say a man named Jose Valenzuela is in custody; he lives on the property. No additional information was immediately released, but deputies are expected to release more details at a news conference at noon.
Babeu said family members of the Careccia’s have been notified of the recovery and arrest.
“Our investigators and staff continue to carefully gather evidence that we believe will prove critical to our investigation and result in a stronger criminal case,” Babeu said.
Details of the investigation are expected to be released at a news conference scheduled for midday Thursday.
Authorities said Michael Careccia, 44, and his wife, Tina, haven’t been seen since they left their home in their car about 5 a.m. on June 22.
The man’s teenage son called 911 about 7:15 that night to report his father and stepmother were missing.
The couple’s abandoned car was later found about a half-mile away from their home, covered in dirt.
