Chipotle E. Coli Outbreak
Published: November 21, 2015
Chipotle E. Coli Outbreak, The recent E. coli outbreak initially linked to Chipotle restaurants in the Pacific Northwest has hit Ohio.
On Friday, Chipotle issued a news release stating that the CDC has informed Chipotle that it identified six additional cases in which initial testing matches the E. coli strain involved in incidents in Washington and Oregon.
Though one of the individuals has no known link to Chipotle, five individuals did report eating at Chipotle. Among those is a 25-year-old Cuyahoga County man, who reported dining at the Chipotle on the University of Akron’s campus. Other cases include two in Turlock, Calif., one in Amherst, NY and one in Burnsville, Minn.
USA Today reports that 45 people have been infected with the food illness in California, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Oregon and Washington. Previously, the situation was primarily associated with just Oregon and Washington, with cases being reported in Minnesota.
The CDC says the evidence points to meals at Chipotle being the “likely source of the outbreak.”
