Chesapeake Murder-Suicide: Tragedy In Virginia, Police say a family of six are dead in an apparent domestic murder-suicide in Chesapeake.
Chesapeake Police say they were first called out to the 2300 block of Wildwood Road Wednesday around 3:35 p.m. to perform a welfare check on an individual. Upon arrival, police discovered a dead body.
Further investigation led officers to a nearby home not far from the Portsmouth city line at the intersection of George Washington Highway North and Wintergreen Drive, where an armed person was barricaded inside.
The SWAT team was called out to assist, as police say they attempted to negotiate with the person during the next several hours. The standoff ended, with officers making entry into the residence. Inside, they found five additional bodies, including the suspect.
Friends and neighbors tell 13News Now reporter Marcella Robertson all six people were members of the Dooley family, who were prominent in the community and members of the Temple Baptist Church of Chesapeake. On social media, friends and surviving relatives have shown outpouring of grief and condolences for the Dooley family.

Neighbors say the father, Todd Dooley, was a Chesapeake Police Officer with the Marine Dive Unit.
Investigators believe the five victims were dead before police arrived and began negotiating with the sixth family member.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
