Bus driver saves kids: German Bus Driver Saves Kids, A German bus driver reportedly rescued 60 school kids moments before a passenger train collided with the school bus on Wednesday.
The school bus, carrying 60 school children, was struck on the railway track when the driver attempted to cross a barrier on the Buxtehude and Stade railway line north of Hamburg, according to ABC News.
“The B37 road is currently closed due to road works. The bus needed to take a detour through town. As it was crossing the rail tracks, the barrier came down stopping it from going further,” a police spokesperson said, according to The Local.
The 23-year-old driver immediately evacuated all the children from the bus, reported 9News. An approaching passenger train hit the school bus shortly after the evacuation.
“The driver had tried to get in contact with [rail operator] Deutsche Bahn. A minute later the train crashed into the bus,” the spokesperson added, according to The Local.
A student, identified as Marvin in media reports, filmed the collision on his cell phone from approaching train to collision, reported DW. “Everyone screamed, all had shaking legs,” said Marvin.
“The lady prevented the worst from happening through her quick action,” police spokesman Rainer Bohmbach said, according to DW.
