American Idol Voting 2012

American Idol Voting 2012, It doesn’t get much better than this.
As this season’s “American Idol” finale draws near, the final four contestants each needed a moment of unparalleled greatness. Each needed a show-stopping, mind-blowing performance to propel them into the Top 3 and onto superstardom’s doorstep. Would they pass their almost-final test?
I’ll save you the suspense. The answer is yes, yes they did.
Singing songs from California artists in the first half of the show and songs that “they wish they’d written” in the second half, Phillip Phillips, Hollie Cavanagh, Joshua Ledet and Jessica Sanchez all delivered the goods as they continue to blur the line between this week’s weak link and a contender for the title. Well, off we go…
I like Phillip. And I’ve always liked this song. But at its core this performance was no more than “another week, same old Phillip.” It’s obvious that he is far and away a very different artist from the other three remaining singers. Phillip is never going to sing a song where he is belting out high notes or showing off his vocal range. That is not his game. His meal ticket is the guitar and a spin on the right song. I keep going back to his cover of Usher’s “U Got It Bad” a few weeks ago. That was the kind of song that can put him in the finals. This wasn’t. The vocal was good, but just standing behind the microphone singing classic rock, Phillip doesn’t stand out.
When Phillip inevitably makes an album, this song should be on it. The performance of a song I was unfamiliar with was fantastic – haunting, mesmerizing, the whole nine. This is about as good as it is going to get for Phillip, in my opinion. He didn’t sound like Dave Matthews, his vocals were strong, the song choice was absolutely perfect and he showed a side that doesn’t come out when he is singing CCR or other random rock songs. Here, he was a musician. Great job. (NJ)
